MAC OS Minimum Requirements

To Keep ARCHIVE Growing and Maintain its Integrity

ARCHIVE has always been an electronic repository for authentic texts in current authorized translations. In the past, verfying this has been the job of ARCHIVE's developer. This has also been something of a bottleneck for new texts at times because the developer has always had a limited amount of time to devote to that activity. By opening ARCHIVE to submissions from all its users, this bottleneck is eliminated. However, it also opens ARCHIVE to the risk of non-authoritative texts being included unless some safguards are established and adhered to. For that reason we have have developed the criteria listed below. Submissions that meet these requirements will be available for download on the ARCHIVE download page.

  1. Documents from the Bahá'í Writings, including those from the Guardian, must be accompanied by a letter from a senior institution (National Spiritual Assembly or the Bahá'í Wolrd Center) stating that the document is authentic and a current translation (when appropriate).
  2. Documents from the Universal House of Justice and its instituions, such as the International Teaching Center, must be accompanied by a PDF of the original document, and a letter (PDF or email) from that institution granting permission to distribute it freely. In the absence of a PDF of the original document, a letter (PDF or email) from the institution verfying its authenticity is acceptable.
  3. Non-sacred documents, such as those written by or under the auspices of an institution of the Faith (National Spiritual Assemblies, Continental Boards of Counselors, etc.) or their committees or subordinate institutions must be accompanied by a PDF of the original document and a letter (PDF or email) stating that permision is granted to publish or distribute it freely.
  4. Documents produced by individuals must be accompanied by a letter granting permission to have it reproduced and distributed in ARCHIVE without charge or royalty. In addition, the document, if not having been published by a recognized Bahá'í Publisher, must include a letter (PDF or email) stating that it has passed review by the National Spiritual Assembly of jurisdiction of the author.
  5. All documents submitted must be accompanied by a statement that the file(s) have been proofread by at least two individuals whose names and contact information are provided at the bottom of the statement. This statement may be submitted as an email.

We recommend, but do not insist, that the document files be rendered in CopyPaste X, the program used to develop ARCHIVE, using Lucida Grande as the font. This allows the user to format the files similarly to the files originally included in ARCHIVE. CopyPaste X has proven to be an invaluable tool for Macintosh users and is well worth its small investment. The ARCHIVE file must be saved as a text file if some other word processor is used in order to appear properly in SwiftSeeker, the search engine at the core of ARCHIVE. SwiftSeeker is a variant of CopyPaste X that was developed specifically for ARCHIVE, so one can see that having the "parent" application will make it easier to develop new files that are indistuishable from the originals.

For those of you who wish to develop ARCHIVE for the Palm OS documents as well, we strongly urge you to purchase eBook Studio, the program we used to develop ARCHIVE for the Palm OS. It is inexxpensive and very easy to use. This link also has the current version of the free eReader that you load onto your Palm to open the ARCHIVE for Palm files.
